Pregnancy and the birth of a baby brings about many changes for a woman, both physically and mentally. This class is designed to gently strengthen and tone muscles as well as easing any tension in the mind and body. The emphasis is on gentle, flowing movements which are perfect for creating energy and vitality.
Babies are included too with an introduction to baby yoga; gentle stretches to help encourage the baby to move in a variety of ways. This class is best suited to babies who are not yet crawling. We always finish with a short relaxation; perfect for spending time close to your baby.
A typical class starts with warm-up stretches for mum and a gentle massage for baby. Then we’ll move onto some standing activations for mum designed to really wake-up the body followed by a short sequence. Usually we follow this with some baby yoga and exercises that mum and baby do together. We always end with a short relaxation.
The yoga part of the class ends at 11:45am and then it’s time for some herbal tea and a chance to get to know the other mums.
What is Akasha Yoga Centre like?
Akasha Yoga Centre is a comfortable and warm space. Mats, cushions and blankets are provided. Please bring a small blanket or muslin to lay baby on. Shoes are left in the store room and there are hooks for you to hang belongings.
The studio is upstairs and you are welcome to store prams in the lobby downstairs, or if you prefer bring them upstairs. I’ll be around to help.
